On Sunday, July 1st, 2012, the Sereen Foundation, one of ECN’s partners, delivered the first component of its WoW Project to Children’s Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357 (CCHE). The delivery was made by Sereen Foundation principals Dr. Tawfik Abdelmoneim, Magda Elreheimy and Tania Abdelmoneim.

The donation consisted of arts and crafts supplies which were received by Dr. Nermin Sharabas and Dr. Hanaa Farid, the Head of the Volunteer’s Department and the Strategic Manager of CCHE, respectively.

“Art supplies not only bring joy to the children but also a sense of normalcy as they deal with the challenges of their treatment”, said Dr. Sharabas.

Earlier this year, ECN established a fund called the “Sereen Fund”, which was arranged with the Sereen Foundation to benefit ECN’s partners, including CCHE, AFNCI and Fakkous. The WoW Project was initiated by the Sereen Foundation as a major recipient of Sereen Fund donations to deliver art supplies to CCHE in order to supplement the artistic activities undertaken by staff, volunteers and patients at the hospital.

On behalf of CCHE, ECN thanks the Sereen Foundation for this unique donation and looks forward to further future collaboration! His Excellency Sameh Shoukry, the Egyptian Ambassador to the United States, wrote a letter to Mr. Steven Farris, the CEO of Apache Corporation, in which he promoted ECN and asked for Apache’s general support. The letter is posted below.

Apache is a petroleum and gas exploration company which has been working in Egypt for nearly two decades. They are the third-largest producers of liquid hydrocarbons and natural gas in Egypt and have various corporate social responsibility initiatives that they coordinate in Egypt and on a global scale.

ECN thanks His Excellency for his help in promulgating our mission and values and we look forward to future collaborations to benefit CCHE and other pediatric oncology initiatives in Egypt. If you have a strong connection to a corporation, please consider helping us in the same way that Ambassador Shoukry has.

Dr. Sherif Abouelnaga visited New York and New Jersey on June 9th, 2012, where he was invited by the Egyptian Cultural Center to speak to the Egyptian American Professional Society (EAPS) during their quarterly meeting. He gave a presentation about Children’s Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357 (CCHE) and it was very well-received by the EAPS. This was a great beginning to what will be a long, prosperous and collaborative relationship between the Egyptian Cultural Center, CCHE and ECN.

One of the biggest outcomes of Dr. Sherif’s visit to New York was the initiative to create a volunteer chapter in the Tri-State Area (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) which will be led by Dr. Fatma Abboud, Chief Executive Officer of EIHAB Human Services, and the Chair of the Egyptian Cultural Center.

The Tri-State Area has a large Egyptian-American population, which would make it a prime location for a new ECN Chapter. It is our hope that this chapter will be fully established in the near future, and that it will be added to a list of prominent chapters that have already been established, including ECN Dallas and ECN Los Angeles.

ECN is proud to have a talented staff and a library for our volunteers where they can find everything they need to start a chapter in their area for fundraising and outreach. We are very excited about the formation of this new chapter and we will continue to do everything necessary to support this great endeavor.
