Rodayna, saved thanks to God’s protection and 57357’s rapid intervention

Overwhelmed with gratitude, Rodayna’s mom delivers a personal testimonial in favor of the Hospital

Watch Rodayna in the art therapy room painting her life with colors of joy

Rodayna is a beautiful three and a half year old girl, the youngest of 4 siblings whose father is an employee and her mother a housewife.

Her ordeal starts when one day her mother discovers she is bleeding heavily when she urinates. They rushed to the physician who after running X rays and tests, discovered a tumor and a deterioration in one of her kidneys. He recommended that she would be taken rapidly to Hospital 57357

First encounter of Rodayna with the Hospital:

Her parents receive an admission number and are told to wait for a call from the hospital. The Next day they are asked to bring along Rodayna and to complete her admission process so as to start receiving treatment. Upon admission, Rodayna is subjected to further tests and the surgeon asked that she would be prepared to undergo surgery for the removal of the tumor and the kidney the following day .Later, he explained that there was a fear from complications threatening Rodayna’s life. Hence, the need to intervene rapidly to remove the tumor and the kidney.

Today, I meet Rodayna in the art therapy room two weeks after her surgery. She is a merry carefree little girl laughing, playing and immersing herself in coloring. Her mom is sitting beside her happy, relaxed and comforted. Her father explains that at 57357, they also take good care of the patient’s family. With compassion, they try as much as they can to ease their fears and to comfort them. But most importantly they take excellent care of the children as though they were their own.” God bless all the Hospital staff who provide our children with the best quality care that you find in the best world cancer centers”, exclaimed Rodayna’s father.

Rodayna’s mother is full of gratitude for 57357

And her mother to add that all skeptic remarks and negative feedback they sometimes received concerning the Hospital has proven wrong the minute they stepped into the healthcare center. The cleanliness, the quality care, the devotion and compassion of professionals, the advanced technology, the interaction with parents with respect for their condition and dignity are all aspects of the comprehensive care they provide their patients free of charge. She meant to share with me that she was keen to discredit all the deliverers of rumors through inviting them to come and visit her daughter at 57357 which saved her life. Finally she wondered how people from modest background would have felt lost and helpless, if Hospital 57357 did not exist. She praised all those who established the Hospital and the donors who are sustaining it.

Rodayna’s story is one of so many stories of children with cancer who deserve to receive the best care and treatment. Thanks to all your contributions and efforts, we are enable d to provide them with top quality care which is resulting in an average cure rate of 73.8%. Our pledge to you today is to reach the 80% before the end of this year 2016(God Willing)

The generous Mrs. Amna Taher signed a contract through which she is donating an entire property to Hospital 57357 to set up a Hospice care (one of 57357’s future expansion projects) for is patients. The Hospice care facility will be furnished and equipped by AFNCI and will include a space for palliative care patients as well as an entire floor for the treatment of Virus C patients and a mammogram unit for cancer breast detection. The supportive action of AFNCI to this 57357 expansion project component falls within its global mission of supporting projects which would enhance the standards of healthcare delivery to Egyptian patients and hence contribute to the wellbeing and progress of the Nation.

In the picture, you can see Egypt’s Squash Champion, Nour El Sherbini as she attended the contract signing event during her visit to the Hospital that same day.

It is noteworthy that the 57357’s Continuing Education unit has just recently completed a training course for assistant nurses in palliative care for 57357’s in- patients as well as those who need this critical type of care at home

The vision of the 57357 group with respect to this concerted action is to provide the best opportunities for quality care and treatment to all Egypt’s cancer patients and to put up resources and training capabilities at the service of Egyptian cancer patients at the hands of experts and healthcare professionals who receive the highest quality training.

Training in radio- nuclear pharmacy specialty is being established

In 57357 and for the first time in Egypt and in the Arab world:
Training in radio- nuclear pharmacy specialty is being established

Nuclear pharmacy was first established as a pharmacy specialty in the developed world in 1978. Nuclear Pharmacy entails the preparation of radioactive materials that will be used to diagnose and treat specific diseases. . Nuclear pharmacy seeks to improve and promote health through the safe and effective use of radioactive drugs for diagnosis and therapy. With respect to radiology, the pharmacist will be following up on non nuclear material injected to the patient for diagnostics purposes.

Training in Radio- Nuclear pharmacy in 57357 involves two main activities:
In the Radiology Department:
Through examining the client’s treatment history, the radio- Nuclear pharmacist will ensure that the non-radioactive material namely radio contrast agents or dyes used in MRI and CT scans will not interfere with the medication he is receiving and will be dosed according to his body weight so as to protect him from side effects especially with respect to kidney functions.
In the Nuclear Medicine Department:

The pharmacist will receive a certified training from the International Atomic Energy Agency to handle safely the radio-active materials. The first pharmacist to receive such training is 57357’s clinical pharmacist, Mahmoud El Sherif who is to check on the safe handling of the radioactive material used for treatment and diagnostic purposes under the supervision of 57357’s expert in safety and protection in the nuclear medicine field.
“I am delighted with 57357’s action of constantly pursuing to improve the quality of services it is providing to the children. I am also excited to be part of this improvement.” reveals Dr. El Sherif. He pledges to do the utmost to ensure more safety to the children as he is proud that 57357 is always a forerunner in applying the latest procedures that will maximize the outcome of patients and increase their chances of cure.

Tarek, a 57357 Tanta branch patient whose smile and high spirits are performing miracles

13076752_1366831270000298_6545067251078876458_nThe first time I laid eyes on him was during the cartoon characters festival Hospital 57357 Cairo had organized for the children a week ago. You cannot but be charmed by his beautiful laughter. He carries a smile that lightens up his face and instills hope in anyone who reaches out to him.

Tarek is from Banha. His father is an engineer and his mother a school teacher. He is 10 years old and has three siblings. He is being treated at 57357’s Tanta branch because it is nearer to his home in Banha province.

“A year ago in May, Tarek suffered from severe bouts of vomiting. He saw several physicians among whom a neurologist who discovered that Tarek had a brain tumor” reveals to me his mother. “It is then that we hurried to Hospital 57357 where they told us that we would have to wait for two weeks before they could find a room for him” she added.
Tarek was admitted in July. He underwent an operation to remove water on the brain and then a biopsy. His physician Dr. Yasser Youssef prescribed 31 radiotherapy sessions and 12 chemotherapy ones.

The salutary advantages of 57357’s Tanta Branch

We are presently done with the radiotherapy sessions and we are taking the chemo in Tanta Branch. Thank god for the existence of this branch which saves us from the hustle of commuting to Cairo. The Tanta branch is much closer to our home in Banha. Tarek is less tired after receiving the treatment and all the Branch staff are helpful and supportive. The new Tanta branch is so quiet and peaceful.
Tidings of great joy:
Tarek’s mother informs me with tears of joy in her eyes that 75% her son’s tumor has shrunk according to recent tests and scans. His physician, Dr. Yasser confirmed the outcome and revealed that Tarek has 2 more chemo sessions to go through after which he will receive a PET/CT Scan and start the follow-up phase. Tarek is rejoicing over these results and is more confident that he will overcome the cancer.

Tarek’s feedback of Tanta Branch:
“I love both Dr. Yasser and Dr Beltagui and Miss Mervat and Mr. Hesham from the Tanta nursing team. They all joke with me and make me laugh. I find myself looking forward to my next chemo sessions because I will see them. I put down in writing all the funny moments of these encounters. I want to thank all the donors who have made it possible for me to receive treatment and to win my battle against cancer”
I asked Tarek about his dreams for the future. He answered that he wanted to be a football player with the Ahly club!

Tarek’s case is hopeful mainly because he is surrounded with comprehensive care at the hands of Tanta Branch professionals who understand how important it is to lift up his spirits so as to give him strength to win his battle against cancer

The Canadian Philopateer Christian College visit to 57357

23High school students came to lift up the children’s spirits…….They left hopeful and encouraged
On Sunday, March 13th, 2016, the CCHE was blessed with the visit of a group of 30 high school students from the private Philopateer Christian College in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The group was accompanied by their School Principal, Ms. Phoebe Wasfi and Fr. Angelos Michael representative of the Coptic Orthodox Church in Canada. This is the annual High School mission trip through which the students will be visiting orphanages and hospices as well as 57357 in Egypt. They came loaded with gifts and spent most of their time with the children.

At the end of their tour of the Hospital premises, our visitors unanimously reveal how proud they are of 57357, and how grateful and delighted they were to start their Egyptian Tour with the 57357 visit. “This is truly a life changing experience”, exclaims one of the students as he shares how surprised he was to find the children with cancer looking hopeful with smiles on their faces. Another student is appreciative of the application of advanced technology, the provision of free outstanding quality care as well as the devotion and optimism of the Hospital’s physicians and Nurses.
As for Fr. Angelos Michael, he was impressed to find that Hospital 57357 was comparable to the most renowned Hospital for children in Canada, the Sick Kids Hospital with one noticeable difference is that the latter is covered by publically funded health insurance. As such, he urges each and every Egyptian or Canadian to donate to 57357, the largest free-standing Hospital in the world, so as to enable it to sustain and to expand to offer its free quality services to a larger number of children still needing access to quality care both in Egypt and the surrounding region. Fr. Angelos delivered a donation check to 57357’s Physician Dr. Mohamed Aggag who accompanied the visitors during the tour.

The College’s Principal, Ms. Wasfi ends the visit with these encouraging words: It was a dream for us to see the Hospital …..57357 is the Hope for the hopeless….. Here and Now, we are witnessing the shaping of the future of Egypt by the Egyptians.. We will support you and will continue to do so…..
